Proficiency tests are to help you prepare for your next grading. They allow you to see for yourself what you have learned in your Aikido training so far. The testing also gives your Instructors an indication of what they haven't taught you. So, they actually benefit everyone.
During Proficiency Tests, your execution of Aikido techniques is assessed. Your instructors will mark you on what you are doing well and record how you can do better next time. These test notes will give you and your Instructors a good indication of your progress leading up to Grading. This information is considered when establishing your eligibility to grade.
